WALMER STREET BRIDGE UPGRADE WORKS – UPDATE MAY 2023

Works are set to commence to replace the Southern land bridge section of the Walmer Street Bridge in Abbotsford. This page is to inform you about the upcoming construction works to replace the Southern land bridge section of the Walmer Street Bridge in Abbotsford. Works are required to upgrade the Southern approach as part of an existing planning permit to improve the ‘Walmer’ precinct development. Construction works are expected to commence from July (weather permitting).

How construction will affect the area

While the construction works take place on the Southern land bridge, the Walmer Street Bridge will be closed in full until December 2023 (weather permitting), with overall project completion target of February 2024. As onsite progress develops, monthly updates will be provided via the weblink below with regards to the opening dates of the pathways & bike trails.

Signage to inform cyclists and pedestrians about the bridge closure, including detour routes, will be installed at various points around Walmer Street Bridge leading up to and during construction.
